Blackthorn (Prunus spinosa)

Known for their dark fruits which are can be used to make sloe gin. Blackthorn trees produce snow-white flowers in early spring. Spiny and densely branched, mature trees can grow to a height of around 6–7m and live for up to 100 years.

The size of each plant is between 15 – 50cm in height from the root plug.

  • Product Description

    A renowned hardy shrub is blackthorn. Typically seen in hedgerows, it may be planted in a variety of soil types, including sandy or clay-rich soils, and it can withstand dry spells that kill other hedge plants. However, as blackthorn is a shrubby tiny tree that prefers full light, be sure to put it in an area free of shadows. Due to its ability to withstand cold, this plant is also beneficial. forms a sturdy hedge for protection.

    Blackthorn's dense, prickly foliage makes it a great natural security hedge. Because of its density, blackthorn also provides amazing cover for birds and other species. With an annual growth rate of 40–60 cm, blackthorn is a fast-growing hedge that can thrive in most soil types with the exception of extremely wet soil. Blackthorn doesn't grow well in complete shade; it does best in a sunny location.

  • Deliveries

    All postage and packaging charges for products delivered to the Mainland UK are included within the price. Additional charges apply for Northern Ireland, The Highlands & Scottish Isles, The Channel Islands, Scilly Isles & Isle of Man when ordering more than 8 trees.

    As a guide, orders for 8 plants or more will be sent via a courier, 8 plants or fewer will be sent by Royal Mail.

  • Refunds

    Your happiness is our business and that is why we individually check every single tree that we send out. If you have a concern about your tree, please get in touch with us within 7 days so that we can diagnose the issue. Very rarely, we might ask you to send the tree back to us in secure packaging to help us identify the issue but often we can identify the issue with photographs.
