  • Product Description

Gorse hedging has a lot of advantages. This natural plant is exceedingly thorny, evergreen, and has a long flowering season that lasts from early spring  until midsummer.
Ulex europaeus grows well in a variety of environments, including exposed and arid coastal areas.  Gorse blossoms are incredibly fragrant and have a distinctive hue similar to egg yolk. These plants can be used to create the most sensory-rich garden possible.

The fact that gorse can tolerate a range of soil types, such as low soils, sandy soils, or rocks, is another factor making it a good hedge plant. But in order for this hedge plant to flourish and thrive, the soil needs to be well-drained and capable of fixing nitrogen so that the plant can enrich the soil and benefit other plants.

Gorse grows slowly; it typically grows 15 to 30 centimetres a year. But because of its sharp spines, it grows up to 2.5 metres and is especially advised for intruder-proof hedges. Ulex europaeus was originally employed as a windbreak that could be chopped down to make animal fodder. It is also well-suited for windy, exposed coastal areas. Its thorny, thick nature offers superb cover for wildlife. Gorse hedging works especially well on acid soils, but it may even withstand alkaline soils.
