  • Product Description

Evergreen Oak's timber is extremely strong, making it a highly valued tree throughout history. Originating from the Medditaranian, it has been well acclimatised in the UK since the 1500's and is now a common resident of woodlands, estates, and gardens alike. When Evergreen Oak reaches adulthood, its colour and texture change from hairy, delicate, and pale green to leathery, dark green, and it is coated in soft white hairs on the underside.

In June, both male and female flowers emerge on catkins; the earliest blooms are the brightest since they have a delicate yellow colour and the tree can grow up to 20 metres at full height. Much like other Oaks they also have an extremely long lifespan, with Evergreen Oak's being able to live over 1000 years! It is tolerant of most soil types as long as it is well drained.

Their tolerance for shadows and air pollution makes them perfect for planting in city parks and as street trees. They are often planted as windbreaks along the sea coast due to their resistance to salt spray.

The vibrantly coloured Jay loves eating oak tree acorns. They frequently store their discoveries for the upcoming winter, but sometimes they forget where they've buried them, giving the acorns an opportunity to sprout into saplings.
