Dog Rose (Rosa canina)

Dog rose flowers are a helpful nectar source for insects, and the fruits are a good source of food for birds. Dog Rose can be found in scrubland, woodland borders, and hedgerows. Although it is more widespread in the UK's south, it is present everywhere, particularly in areas with rich soil. The size of each plant is between 15 – 50cm in height from the root plug.

  • Product Description

A deciduous shrub, the dog rose typically grows to a height of 1-3 metres , however it occasionally climbs higher into the crowns of larger trees. It can climb because of the tiny, sharp, hooked prickles that cover its stems. When damaged, leaves emit a delightful perfume, and sweet-scented flowers, which are often pale pink but can also be white or deep pink, bloom.

The flesh of dog rose rose hips are excellent for consumption because they contain high concentrations of antioxidants, primarily polyphenols and vitamin C, along with carotenoids, vitamins B and E, and natural sugars, organic acids, polyunsaturated fatty acids, phenolics, and essential oil.
