The blackthorn is known for its sturdy, dense appearance, making it a great core for hedging but this tree is also the source of sloe berries, a firm favourite for making sloe gin, preserves and wine. The leaves are oval, toothed with a pointed tip with beautiful white flowers blossoming before the leaf in March, April time. A delight for wildlife for its early pollination to the dense foliage and tasty berries.
Please note: all our trees are 20 – 40cm in height, depending on the time of year they may arrive bare or with browning leaves. This is completely normal and they will perk back up in the warmer weather. Our cell grown saplings can be planted all year round if given the right care and attention.
